Galicia será o epicentro do debate europeo sobre o futuro da ciencia oceánica e do mar coa celebración en Vigo da Conferencia EurOCEAN 2023

  • O evento celebrarase no auditorio Mar os días 10 e 11 de outubro e reunirá a comunidade científica, responsables políticos e administracións de todos os niveis, así como a representantes da industria e da sociedade para debater sobre os retos e oportunidades do ámbito do mar
  • A conferencia está promovida pola European Marine Board en colaboración co Centro Tecnolóxico do Mar-Fundación Cetmar, o CSIC, o Centro de Investigación Mariña da Universidade de Vigo e o Campus do Mar así como da Comisión Europea e das principais redes de investigación mariña de Europa
  • Ademais o 8 e 9 de outubro Santiago de Compostela acollerá o primeiro foro de profesionais do océano na etapa inicial da súa carreira e o 12 e 13 terá lugar a reunión de socios do EMB na sede do Cetmar en Vigo

Galicia converterase o próximo mes de outubro no epicentro do debate europeo sobre a restauración dos océanos e sobre o futuro da ciencia mariña ao acoller a Conferencia EurOCEAN 2023, un foro que reunirá na cidade de Vigo a comunidade científica europea, a responsables políticos da Unión Europea e dos Estados Membros, a industria marítima e outras partes interesadas do mar.

O EuroOCEAN 2023 terá lugar os días 10 e 11 de outubro e a súa sede será o auditorio Mar de Vigo, que se converterá nun espazo de intercambio e debate sobre os últimos avances e desafíos de futuro na investigación mariña e o uso sostible do océano. O lema da conferencia será One Ocean, One Voice e buscará consensuar as mensaxes clave para a comunidade científica internacional sobre a necesidade de restaurar e salvagardar para as xeracións futuras o bo estado do océano e a sustentabilidade dos servizos que prestan os ecosistemas mariños mediante o fomento da investigación e do coñecemento relevante para este fin.

A Conferencia EuroOCEAN é o principal foro de encontro a nivel europeo sobre política e a ciencia mariña. Ofrece unha oportunidade única para que a comunidade investigadora mariña e todas as partes interesadas actúen coas persoas responsables das políticas e estratexias dos Estados Membros da Unión Europea para considerar, discutir e responder aos novos desenvolvementos, desafíos e oportunidades en ciencia e tecnoloxía mariña. Esta será a décima edición do evento, forma parte da Axenda da Presidencia española da UE e busca reforzar as sinerxías entre a Misión da Unión Europea para a restauración do océano e as augas continentais ata 2030, a Década das Nacións Unidas das Ciencias Oceánicas para o Desenvolvemento Sostible e outras iniciativas internacionais e europeas de investigación e innovación. As edicións anteriores de EurOCEAN tiveron lugar en Bruxelas (1993), Sorrento (1995), Lisboa (1998), Hamburgo (2000), Galway (2004), Aberdeen (2007), Ostende (2010), Roma (2014) e París ( 2019).

A conferencia subliñará a importancia de unir esforzos cara á acción colectiva e a prol das ciencias mariñas para garantir o cumprimento dos Obxectivos de Desenvolvemento Sostible da ONU para 2030 e a Misión da UE “Restaurar o noso Océano e as Augas no horizonte do 2030”. Todo iso a través dun amplo programa que se dará a coñecer proximamente na páxina web de EurOcean 2023, onde xa é posible inscribirse como participante.  

European Marine Board organiza esta xornada en colaboración co Centro Tecnolóxico do Mar-Fundación Cetmar, o Instituto Español de Oceanografía e o Instituto de Investigacións Mariñas do Consello Superior de Investigacións Científicas, o Centro de Investigación Mariña da Universidade de Vigo, o Campus do Mar e a Comisión Europea.

A organización tamén conta coa participación da Joint Programming Initiative on Oceans (JPI Oceans), a European Marine Research Network (EuroMarine), o compoñente europeo do Global Ocean Observing System (EuroGOOS), o European Centre of Information on Marine Science and Marine Technology (EurOcean) e a Axencia Europea de Control da Pesca (EFCA). Ademais, no ámbito local, manifestaron o seu apoio á celebración da conferencia o Padroado de Cetmar representado a través da Consellería do Mar da Xunta de Galicia, o Concello de Vigo, o Porto de Vigo e as asociacións Conxemar e Anfaco.

Outros eventos vinculados a EuroOCEAN

Dous días antes da reunión EuroOCEAN 2023 e tamén por iniciativa do European Marine Board (EMB) a través do seu programa Young Ambassadorsterá lugar do 8 ao 9 de outubro na Cidade da Cultura en Santiago de Compostela un foro de traballo para Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOP), que reunirá a 70 representantes desta mocidade profesional, dous por cada unha das organizacións socias do EMB.

Este foro trasladará as súas conclusións á Conferencia posterior e converterase así nun espazo de formación e diálogo interxeracional entre os ECOP do EMB e os líderes da política europea, expertos e membros da comunidade científica ao máis alto nivel.

A semana pecharase coa celebración da reunión de membros do European Marine Board, que terá lugar os días 12 e 13 de outubro na sede do Centro Tecnolóxico do Mar-Fundación CETMAR en Vigo.

Galicia will become the epicentre of the european debate on the future of the ocean and the marine science by hosting the EurOCEAN 2023 conference in Vigo

  • The event, to be held in the Mar de Vigo auditorium on October 10th and 11th, will bring together the scientific community, political leaders and administrations at all levels, as well as industry and society representatives to discuss the challenges and opportunities in the marine realm.
  • The European Marine Board (EMB) is the promoter of the conference, organized with the collaboration of the Centro Tecnológico del Mar-Fundación CETMAR, the CSIC (through the Spanish Institute of Oceanography and the Marine Research Institute), the Centre for Marine Research of the University of Vigo and the Campus do Mar as well as the European Commission and the main European marine research networks such as JPI Oceans, EurOcean, Euromarine and EuroGOOS.
  • In connection with EurOCEAN2023, the first forum for Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOP) will also be held in Galicia, taking place two days before in Santiago de Compostela.
  • The closing event of the week will be the meeting of the EMB partners at the CETMAR headquarters in Vigo, on October 12th and 13th.

Next October, Galicia will become the epicentre of the European debate on the restoration of the oceans and the future of marine science by hosting the EurOCEAN 2023 conference; a forum that will bring together the European scientific community in the city of Vigo, policy makers from the European Union and Member States, the maritime industry and other marine stakeholders.

EurOCEAN 2023 will take place on October 10th and 11th at the Mar de Vigo auditorium, as a space for exchange and debate on the latest advances and future challenges in marine research and the sustainable use of the ocean. The motto of the conference “One Ocean, One Voice” will seek to agree on the key messages for the international scientific community about the need to restore and safeguard for future generations, the good state of the ocean and the sustainability of the services provided by marine ecosystems by promoting scientific research and relevant knowledge.

The EuroOCEAN conference is the main European meeting forum on marine science policy. It offers a unique opportunity for the marine research community and all stakeholders to interact with the European policy makers and strategists to consider, discuss and respond to new developments, challenges and opportunities in marine science and technology. This tenth edition of the event makes part of the Agenda of the Spanish Presidency of the EU. It constitutes a strategic event with a view to reinforcing synergies between the “European Union Mission for the restoration of the ocean and inland waters” by 2030, the United Nations Decade of Ocean Sciences for Sustainable Development and other international and European initiatives of research and innovation. Previous editions of EurOCEAN took place in Brussels (1993), Sorrento (1995), Lisbon (1998), Hamburg (2000), Galway (2004), Aberdeen (2007), Ostend (2010), Rome (2014) and Paris ( 2019).

The conference will stress the importance of joining efforts towards collective action and marine science that guarantee compliance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and the intended restoration of the oceans. All this through an extensive program to be announced shortly on the EurOcean2023 website , where registration for participants is already available .

The Young Professionals of the Ocean Working Forum and other events linked to EurOCEAN

Two days before the EurOCEAN 2023 meeting, on its own initiative, the European Marine Board (EMB) through its Young Ambassadors Program, organizes a working forum for the Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOP) in Santiago de Compostela to gather, 70 of these young professionals _two from each EMB member organizations, at the Cidade da Cultura, on October 8th and 9th. This forum will transfer conclusions to the following Conference, thus becoming a space for training and intergenerational dialogue between the EMB ECOPs and European political leaders, experts and high-level scientists.

The closing event of the week will be the Autumn meeting of the European Marine Board, which will take place on October 12th and 13th at the headquarters of the Centro Tecnológico del Mar-Fundación CETMAR in Vigo.

Organizers

The European Marine Board organizes this conference in collaboration with the Centro Tecnológico del Mar-Fundación CETMAR, the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO-CSIC) and the Marine Research Institute of the CSIC (IIM-CSIC), the Centre for Marine Research of the University of Vigo (CIM- UVigo), the Campus do Mar and the European Commission. The organization has also involved the Joint Programming Initiative on Oceans (JPI Oceans), the European Marine Research Network (EuroMarine), the European component of the Global Ocean Observing System (EuroGOOS), and the European Centre of Information on Marine Science and Technology (EurOcean). At local level, CETMAR’s Governing Board represented by the Consellería do Mar of the Xunta de Galicia, the Vigo City Council, the Port of Vigo, the industry associations CONXEMAR and ANFACO and the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) have also expressed their support to the Conference.
