The Centro Tecnológico del Mar-Fundación CETMAR will present a study on the FAO’s SOFIA Report, dealing with its evolution, the most relevant conclusions and the opportunities and recommendations of greatest interest for the Galician and Spanish industry of seafood production.

The presentation is part of the 12th International Congress CONXEMAR-FAO to be held in Vigo on 30 September as a prelude to the 25th International Fair of Frozen Seafood-CONXEMAR. Rosa Chapela Perez, Manager of CETMAR’s Fisheries Socioeconomics Area, will present the study together with Audun Lem, FAO Deputy Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture.

Prepared specifically for CONXEMAR, the CETMAR study highlights the evolution and the most important aspects of each SOFIA Report, as well as their impact and interest for CONXEMAR and its associates

The CONXEMAR Congress is dedicated this year to the 25th anniversary of the SOFIA Report. That is why the work developed by CETMAR, which depends on the Regional Government of Galicia, analysed in depth the previous FAO reports, offering conclusions on their evolution as well as opportunities and recommendations to be considered by the Galician and national industry.

The study pays special attention to the Blue Transformation, focused on the added value of aquatic products, and leading this transformation into action or practical application, by integrating sustainability, social equity, and economic growth.

The role of aquaculture, the strengthening of small-scale coastal fishing, international cooperation, technological innovation, circular economy, and adaptation to climate change constitute other aspects and emerging trends that, in the blue transformation context, are highlighted in the report by CETMAR.

The 12th edition of the CONXEMAR-FAO International Congress will bring together experts in Vigo to analyse the current challenges and opportunities of the seafood processing and marketing industry and its commitment to sustainability. It will take place on 30 September from 10:00 a.m. onwards, after the institutional opening.
