The Centro Tecnolóxico do Mar-CETMAR Foundation celebrates 25 years of service to the sea with a programme open to the public
- CETMAR is marking its 25th anniversary this year with a special programme taking place from 12th to 23rd June in Vigo
- The programme includes an informative fair, meetings with experts and institutional events aimed at sharing with the public the work carried out since its foundation in 2001

Created on the initiative of the Xunta de Galicia and, at the time, the Ministry of Science and Innovation, CETMAR has spent twenty-five years promoting research, innovation and international cooperation projects to contribute to the protection of the marine environment and the development of a more competitive and sustainable maritime fisheries sector.
This year, the centre is celebrating its 25th anniversary in Vigo and is marking the occasion by taking some of its work outside, inviting the public to discover, in a practical and engaging way, a small sample of the projects developed in recent years.

The programme will begin on Friday 12th June with the regular meeting of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees and the opening of LonxaLAB: Tides of Innovation, an event open to the public on the CETMAR esplanade. Between 11:00 and 20:00, the access area will be transformed into a science fair where CETMAR’s seven areas of work will showcase their projects and results in an interactive way. The activities are designed for all ages and there will be a children’s area.
The following day, Saturday 13th June, Bouzas beach will host the Solar Boat Regatta, an educational initiative where secondary school students design, build and compete with solar-powered prototypes. Organised in collaboration with the A Industriosa association and the company Marine Instruments, this activity aims to spark an interest in science and technology among young people.
On Thursday 18th June, the anniversary commemorative event will take place: an institutional meeting with the individuals and organisations that have collaborated with the centre over the past 25 years. The celebration, by invitation only, will feature live music and a space to share and reflect on the journey we have undertaken together.
The programme culminates on Tuesday 23rd June with the ‘Diálogos do Mar’ conference, bringing together professionals and experts linked to the centre in CETMAR’s auditorium to reflect on three main areas of work: the human dimension of the sea, the fight against marine pollution and international cooperation. The talks will be attended by both the centre’s staff and some of its most prominent and close collaborators.
With this special programme, CETMAR aims to celebrate 25 years of work in the service of the ocean and reaffirm its commitment to society.
