The CETMAR Foundation explained the investment opportunities that Galician aquaculture has to offer. AquaNOR is taking place in Trondheim (Norway) from 18 to 21 August. This meeting is considered as the largest aquaculture technology exhibition, receiving about 20,000 visitors per year from approximately 65 countries. ICEX Spain Trade and Investment organized a seminar focused on opportunities for aquaculture companies to set up a business in Spain.

General Secretary of Maritime Affairs of Galicia, Juan Maneiro, and Managing-Director of CETMAR Foundation, Paloma Rueda Crespo were joined in Norway by Rosa Chapela, Head of Fisheries Socioeconomic Department of CETMAR. Chapela explained the current opportunities in Galicia through the talk “The time is now, the place is Galicia: matching up sustainability and growth in aquaculture management”. Some of the issues raised in her speech were the future Galician Aquaculture Estrategy, which manages aquaculture development in Galicia until 2030, and the future regional aquaculture law.
The participants showed their interest for the development opportunities in the region.
The Galician authorities and the CETMAR’s representatives attended the seminars organized by Akva Group and Norland County Council about culture technologies and the European legislation regarding aquaculture licensing.
Both meetings helped to share experiences and collaboration opportunities among the entities. Akva Group complemented the seminar with a visit to a managing platform for culture cages.
The journey also involved a meeting with SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture President Vegar Johansen, which will be held today. SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture conducts research projects in new technologies for the Norwegian fish sector. SINTEF also develops projects of investigation in the medicine, technologies and social science fields. The center is considered as the largest independent research organization in Scandinavia and as one of the four major independent research organizations in Europe.
